Preliminary Agenda

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the International Training Center for
Government Authorities CIFAL Atlanta, and Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (HJAIA) (“the
Co-Organizers”) are pleased to present a best-practice sharing roundtable. As part of this series, the Co-
Organizers, in partnership with The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai),
Airports Council International (ACI), and CIFAL Shanghai will organize this high-level dialogue on ”Airports
as Economic Development Engines” in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China on April 2, 2008.

Audience

This no-registration-fee and by-invitation only roundtable will bring together a select group of approximately
40 high-level delegates from Shanghai and Atlanta.

The discussions will be facilitated by international airports representatives, leading academics, technology experts and representatives from the private sector, which facilitate presentations and provide a valuable networking and learning opportunity.

The participants will consist of inter alia:
• Representatives from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
• Civil aviation officials from EAAC East China Region
• Representatives from the Atlanta and Shanghai Chambers of Commerce
• Businessmen with interest on economic development

Key Program Topics

This one day intensive roundtable is designed to create a platform for businessmen and airport officials from China and the U.S. on economic development. The idea is to share knowledge and best practices on how to use airports as economic development tools. As China will be hosting the Olympic Games for the first time, we will also address the role of airports during Olympic Games and how to positively impact the economic vitality of a region. It will address several critical topics such as:
• jobs creation potential
• improve operational excellence
• foster innovation initiatives
• enhance marketing efforts
• innovative Airport Technology

Program Format: UNITAR Methodology

As part of the United Nations training efforts in the world, this program series utilizes UNITAR's integrated knowledge management methodology that emphasizes structured hands on experience based sharing of best practices, panel discussions, and open dialogue. This interactive program explores the full range of opportunities and roadblocks surrounding the planning, development and growth of world class airports
