In March 2011, Estrella Merlos was appointed as Executive Director of CIFAL Atlanta. She is responsible for directing the development and implementation of all programs, working together with strategic partners and donors, recruiting and supervising personnel, and providing leadership to the operations of CIFAL Atlanta.
Estrella earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Georgia State University. Her area of specialization includes urban planning and economic development. She also has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the Central American University “José Simeón Cañas” in El Salvador.
Estrella was a Fulbright Scholar in the United States. Prior to moving to Atlanta, Estrella worked as Chief Economist at the National Association of the Private Sector (ANEP) developing socio-economic policy proposals for her country. These proposals served as tools for government administrations to work together with the private sector to advance economic development and quality of life in El Salvador.
