Topic: Introductions by Representatives

Atlanta – Welcome to Atlanta. Known as the birth place of Martin Luther King

Seattle - Director of all CARE programs, one of the big 6 AIDS programs in the US – introduced his team with him today. First needle exchange in the country. 3 needle exchanges there – exchange more needles than any other needle exchange programs

San Juan – one of the smaller islands of the Caribbean.  It is made up of 4 million people and the happiest country in the world. For those who don’t know, it is a US territory as well.

Denver – Director and team. In 1983, Denver principles were enacted in the city – to empower people who were living with HIV and de-stigmatize the disease

Port of Spain – Director and representative. Represent a Comity action resource; support those living with people living with HIV/AIDS. It is a wonderful island and the best carnival in the world. Better than RIO?

Kingston (Jamaica) – Counselor for Springfield division- the airport has a lovely piece of land. Jamaica is smaller than Puerto Rico, but it is known internationally for their reggae music. There are 2.5 million Jamaicans in Jamaica and another 2.5 million living outside the country; Kingston is the smallest parish on the Island. Kingston and St. Andrew are treated the same. You are all invited to come to Kingston, Jamaica. As we say in Jamaica – no problem man!

Port en Prince; Haiti Health advisor and team– It is the1st black republic of the world. We love freedom; we’ve been fighting and still fighting for freedom. You have to help in the fight for freedom and HIV as well. His hometown – Gemai. Is the most beautiful part of the country. It has been devastated in the past, but we are keeping this city clean. Gemai is known as the city of poets.

Houston, TX – AIDS??? Houston – This is the largest representative. Memorable – heat, humidity, traffic. Largest city in TX, and 4th largest in the country, Named after the 4th president – Sam Houston. Houston is the only state that was once its own country,

San Francisco – Deputy Director of AIDS.

They have a model of HIV care and vaccine trials, dev of prevention and healthcare. People working all over the world. The happiest island of the world, we exchange more needles than anywhere else in the world.

Georgetown (Guyana) – representative from the mayor’s office. Small Island.  25% of the youth are sexually active and we need to address the issue of HIV. We are rich in Boroxide, rice, sugar, gold, and diamonds. But we are still poor.

Oakland, CA – with an NGO and director of office of AIDS unique thing about Oakland – 2 counties that it represents are; … Oakland ca, was the 1st extended metropolitan area to declare emergency state for African Americans.

South Africa – just obtained its independent for the last 10 yrs. Some over 50, voted for the 1st time.  They are very passionate about our newly obtained freedom. Within borders of south Africa – Nelson Mandela – well admired. Population is over 40million, with 9 providences. She comes from the Zulu kingdom. Durban is the gateway of --- in terms of. Zulu is the population of. Here with colleagues – head of skills development, and I represent the mayor of --- I represent the fire, metro police, parks and recreational activities. Explained the other cities in South Africa and their proximity to Durban.

Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) – evaluation of policies, sectary of UNAIDS network in CARE.

San Pedro (Honduras) – Representatives were introduced. The place for banana – but now known for Maquila. 

Curitiba (Brazil) – representative is responsible for one of the nine regions of the city with her staff. They are working hard to reduce the problem of vertical transmission of HIV & working with young people in terms of condom use. For carnival go to RIO. We love football, but we won’t talk about it because of the Mexicans present.

Argentina – I come from Argentina and I come to speak about football. One person representing team here – one person who was supposed to come didn’t make it. (a person living with HIV aids.

Mexico City – the city of hope.  Representing people living with HIV aids in Mexico City. Unfortunately, the head of the HIV program in Mexico could not make it. Many things – beautiful women, beautiful men in Mexico. The most important thing in Mexico is its people.

Ecuador – It is a city that is a rival against Brazil and Argentina. First city that has the biggest downtown, historical.

Rural Honduras – I am happy because I am surrounded by angels.  Thanks to the program ‘job without borders’. The town is called ‘ring of fish’. They need people to work with them – so we are the fish. They are committed to achieving the goals of HIV education. She sings a song for the group; she wants us to join her.

Seattle – first needle exchange in the country

Atlanta – starting of civil rights movement (MLK)

San Juan (Puerto Rico) – happiest country in the world

Denver (Colorado AIDS project) – 1983 empower people living with HIV/AIDS

Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago) – CARE committed action resource- collaborate with clinics and hospitals, FRIENDS for LIFE,

Kingston (Jamaica) – Reggae music, NSE (local NGO)

Port au Prince (Haiti) – fighting for freedom, HIV

Houston (Texas) – AIDS foundation Houston

Durban (South Africa) – population of over 40 million, 9 provinces, come from KwaZulu Natal (10 million) part of the Zulu kingdom, Durban is the gateway for KwaZulu Natal- economic, Durban has over 4 million people. –Ethekwini Aids Council
